Cosmetic products are part of our daily lives – from shower gel in the morning to night cream before bed. Yet few people realise the scientific and regulatory effort that goes into ensuring product safety.
Every cosmetic product placed on the market in the EU must undergo a safety assessment in accordance with the EU Cosmetics Regulation (Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009).
This includes, amongst other things:
- The toxicological assessment of individual ingredients
- Microbiological stability testing
- Compliance with limit values and prohibited substances lists
- The preparation of a comprehensive safety report (Cosmetic Product Safety Report)
The responsible safety assessor bears a great deal of responsibility in this regard – not only legally, but also ethically. After all, the health and trust of consumers are at stake. We operate according to the dual-control principle and have our formulations reviewed by external safety assessors.
