The Product Information File (PID) – in English: Product Information File (PIF) – This is a legally required documentation for every cosmetic product placed on the market in the EU. It is governed by Article 11 of the EU Cosmetics Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009.

The PID serves as evidence of the safety and regulatory compliance of a cosmetic product and must be maintained by the ‘responsible person’ and made available to the authorities at any time upon request.

Typical content includes, amongst other things:

• Description of the cosmetic product
• Safety Report (CPSR)
• Information on manufacturing and GMP compliance
• Evidence supporting the claimed effect
• Information on any animal testing that may have been carried out
